Honoring decades of compassion and community leadership
ACHF is proud to recognize Carolyn Johnson as the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Service Award, celebrating a legacy of generosity, leadership, and community devotion that spans more than four decades. The award was announced at our annual Celebration of Donors on September 26, 2026.
Carolyn and her husband Bruce Johnson, MD, have been donors to the foundation since the early 1980s. Her contributions have gone far beyond financial support. She helped spark the idea behind ACHF’s Lights for Life campaign, a beloved community tradition that began in 1987 and now raises more than $100,000 annually to benefit the health needs of the community.
Carolyn’s dedication to supporting a healthy community has been woven through both her professional and personal life. For 25 years, she served in leadership roles at Ashland Community Hospital, retiring in 2009. During her tenure, she supported the launch of new programs at the hospital to meet community needs, including the School Nurse Program, and the Hospice and Palliative Care Program.
Her passion for end-of-life care led her and her husband to champion the creation of Celia’s House. The organization stands as a testament to Carolyn’s vision and commitment to her community, serving as a place where countless residents have received exceptional care, comfort, and peace at the end of their life.
Carolyn’s commitment to service has never been confined to a single organization. Over the years she has given her time and generosity to causes close to her heart, including Ashland Meals on Wheels, Soroptimist International of Ashland, PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization), and the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland, to name a few.
From supporting our organization during its formative years to building a home for hospice care in our community, Carolyn’s impact is immeasurable. The Distinguished Service Award is a small token of our gratitude for decades of generosity, vision, and love.
