October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to bring increased awareness to the disease and to encourage women to schedule their annual mammogram.
However, for many women, mammograms are a very uncomfortable, sometimes painful experience which they often postpone for years due to their anxiety about the procedure.
In an effort to encourage more women to schedule their annual mammogram and to provide patients with latest in innovative technology, Ashland Community Hospital Foundation recently awarded a grant to Asante Ashland Community Hospital (AACH) Women’s Imaging to purchase the SmartCurve Breast Stabilization System by Hologic.
This system provides a curved compression surface that offers a more comfortable mammogram experience without compromising image quality or exam time. The contoured shape of the paddle conforms to the breast and applies uniform compression over the entire breast tissue.
SmartCurve complements the soft mammography pad used at AACH which elevates the overall comfort for patients receiving mammography services.
The $12,500 grant was made possible by donor designated contributions to the Caregiver Fund and Women’s Imaging.
