An impact grant helped Ashland Parks and Recreation meet increased demand for local vaccination options
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Ashland Community Health Foundation (ACHF) granted $2,000 from our Community Care Fund to Ashland Parks and Recreation. The funds were used to help vaccinate seniors in our community against COVID-19 and the flu.
In October 2023, Ashland Parks and Recreation’s Senior Services Division hosted two vaccination clinics for seniors aged 55 and above who live in Ashland and Talent. People were able to receive their choice of regular flu, senior flu, and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Senior Services had an overwhelming response to the clinics and the staff was faced with turning people away. With $2,000 from the Community Care Fund, they were able to add a third nurse to both days, which allowed them to meet the increased demand.
They issued 450 vaccinations over the two days to over 300 individuals. The average age of registered participants was 75 years and included individuals up to the age of 100. These participants find it very difficult to travel to Medford to get vaccinations and were grateful to have a local resource.
