ACHF collects donations of new mittens, hats, and gloves in December
Each December, ACHF collects new mittens, gloves, and hats for K-5 students in the Phoenix-Talent and Ashland school districts. The drive runs throughout the month, with collection bins located at the ACHF office, as well as satellite locations in Ashland, Talent, and Phoenix.
ACHF first held a mitten, glove, and hat drive in winter 2020 to benefit K-5 students in the Talent and Phoenix community after so many families were impacted by the Almeda Fire. Due to the drive’s success in 2020 and the ongoing need for warm clothing for students, ACHF hosted the drive again in 2022, adding the Ashland School District in addition to Phoenix-Talent. Enthusiastic community participation led to the donation of 1,000 winter items for local students and a new holiday tradition was established.
In 2023, over 1,000 donated items were collected. The colorful mittens, hats, and gloves were distributed to both school districts in January 2024 when students returned to school. ACHF is grateful to partner with the schools and the community to keep local kids warm while they play and enjoy the winter weather.
Seeing the joy on the children’s faces as they receive their own pair of mittens warms my heart. It’s a simple gesture, but it reminds them that they are cherished members of our community. – Tiffanie Lambert, ACHF Board Member
