Support for Hospice and Allied Health Workers
A new fund has been established with a $10,000 gift made to Ashland Community Health Foundation from board member, Diane Yaley Knox and her husband Scott Knox. The fund will support two important areas of our local health care workforce.
ACHF has a robust Allied and Emergency Health scholarship program, and Diane and Scott wanted to do all they could to support our efforts to build up the profession.
For recent Allied and Emergency Health graduates the fund will cover the cost of license and exam fees, so they can move swiftly into the workforce. Many students who graduate from these programs have expended their cash reserves, and have little resources left to pay for state license and exam fees. These fees can range from a couple hundred to upwards of a $1,000 depending on the license. Resources from the Yaley Knox Family Fund will help support these costs for students so they can take their exam immediately upon graduation.
Another profession near and dear to Diane and Scott is the need for qualified hospice and palliative care nurses. Like many of us, they have had first-hand experience caring for their loved ones receiving end of life care. They wanted to do something to give back to these truly one of a kind nurses by supporting their commitment to the profession. Funds will be used to pay for nurses who wish to continue their education and become a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN). Their generous contribution will cover the costs associated with achieving this certification.
